Linda Loudermilk’s Green-eyed Collection
I recently came across the apparel of Linda Loudermilk, an LA-based designer famous for her green thimble. Most recently, the wispy-draped designer is trying out organic jeans, using a corn-based fiber called Ingeo from Italy and sasawashi, a Japanese leaf that has antibacterial properties, in addition to bamboo and organic cotton blended with 1% spandex. Even treatments are supposed to be earth-friendly: the washhouse recycles its water, sandblasting is done by hand, and washing machines use ozone to oxidize jeans for a sun-baked look. Prices for these denim darlings run up around $238 (surprise!), so if you're serious about going organic than better have the ben's to back it up.
Extra note: Designers interested in easy-to-manufacture sustainable clothing, make note of the USA International Environmental Trade Show held every February in Las Vegas (think: MAGIC).
